The Instant Pot is genius for stock, yielding a rich-tasting broth in about 40 minutes for chicken. Vegetable broth is even shorter, about 20 minutes. If you’re into what’s called “bone broth,” the 24 to 48 hours that bones have to cook on the stove is condensed to a few hours in the Instant Pot.
Classicly, with a French onion soup recipe, the most of the work comes from the cooking of the onions. It’s a bit of a process. Using an Instant Pot, you can dramatically cut down on production time to make this incredible soup.
I only have a 6 quart….does same recipe apply So this was a good recipe. But my instant pot did not have a “poultry” setting. So I picked the next closest thing which was “Meat/Stew” and set it on that for 20 mins. Results were that chicken thighs were a bit over cooked (like shredded chicken ). Lots of sauce, it would have made a great recipe to put over rice due to its saucy/shredded consistency, but not the same as the recipe description. Wondering if I should have set the cook time for 10-15 minutes instead on the Meat/stew setting. My husband liked it since he likes overcooked chicken.

So, here are a few tips that have really helped me to finally ‘get’ it, plus instructions for two things that you can make in your Instant Pot that will change your life: incredibly easy perfectly poached eggs in 2-3 minutes, and baked potatoes in 12 minutes.
Note that you still need to account for the time it takes for the Instant Pot to come to pressure, and then for the natural pressure release. It will take about 10 minutes for the pressure to build, and then we will let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes too. So, in reality, you should add 20 minutes to the cooking time below. Hopefully that will be helpful with your dinner planning.
But perhaps the biggest pressure cooker joy I found was for something as simple as hard-cooked eggs. They didn’t cook faster, but even fresh eggs from the farmers’ market peeled effortlessly, without ending up pockmarked and riddled with craters the way they do when I boil them in a pot. This is because the pressure helps inflate the air pocket between the cooked white and the shell, which makes separating the two go more smoothly.

My very first meal in my new pot. Used gluten free rotini and discovered just before that I was out of canned tomatoes so used some tomato soup instead along with the jar of sauce. Used about 1/2 cup less water due to being a 6qt and it all came out perfect. Pasta was soft but not mushy, just right! Thanks for posting the recipe.

Scanpan And ironically I was thinking to myself just last night as I made some fried rice for my kids that I can cook a mean meal, better than your average joe, but I simply cannot cook perfect rice. I either burn it or make it soggy. Seriously, every time! And no, I don’t own a rice cooker either.
I’ve had stove top pressure cookers before, so I was really excited to get this with all the extra features. I loved it, until it wouldn’t keep pressurized after the 6th or 7th use. I called customer service and got a rep who could barely speak English, but pretty much told me I’m not using it correctly and that its dirty. ??? Finally he told me to return it to Walmart and hung up on me, so that is what I’m going to do.
